Abstract

The relationship between the wing rotation of a apping wing and its lift generation was experimentally studied. It has been said that the twisting motion of a apping wing, called supination and pronation plays an important role on high lift generation. In this study, force measurement using some strain gages and ow visualization using 2-D Particle Image Velocimetry were conducted to show the mechanism of rotational lift. The results suggested that wake induced by apping motion and leading edge vortex generated at the beginning of the apping motion have a strong effect on lift generation.
