Abstract

Nitrous oxide is widely used as rocket propellant that contributes to have a simple propulsion system because of its self-pressurization with high vapor pressure. However, liquid flashing and cavitation easily occur and a gas-liquid two-phase flow is formed with self-pressurization. Therefore, it is not easy to estimate its flow characteristics accurately. Nitrous oxide cold flow tests were carried out in order to acquire the characteristics of gas-liquid two-phase flow with self-pressurization. Visualizing the inside of the flow path, it was confirmed that gas-liquid two-phase flow containing quite small bubbles was found during the self-pressurized discharging. In addition, the pressure loss of the entire supply line was also acquired.
