In the process of thermal sprayed coating, the flattening process of the molten droplets plays an important part. The wettability of the molten droplets is greatly concerned with the flattening process. To improve the adhension strength of the coating substrates are generally made their surface roughened by blasting. This paper revealed the relation between the contact angle of the molten droplet and the roughness of the blasted surface. The contact angle of the molten droplet on the substrate was measured both in vacuum and air using image analysis. As a result, for Sn and Al, Ag, Cu splats, their contact angle decreased with surface roughness of the substrates.
