Super duplex stainless steel has an attractive combination of mechanical and corrosion properties and it is thus suitable for many marine structure and petrochemical applications. However, this stainless steel has certain material characteristics, such as low thermal conductivity, a high work-hardening rate, and a high affinity to tools. So it caused to rise cutting temperature, to generate strongly adhesion and to occur significant tool wear. It can only apply to process low cutting speed as ever. In this study, the cutting performance of super duplex stainless steel is investigated in turning with cBN tools. As a result, the tool life was remarkably improved at A tool that compare to other tools. And this tool can be used for high-efficiency cutting at a cutting speed of 3.0m/s. Moreover, Cutting speed of 5.0m/s is thought that the high cutting temperature and falling off of the adhesion in cutting edge caused tool damage.
