In this study, we present the shape optimization of texture applied to the friction surface under hydrodynamic lubrication in order to minimize friction coefficient. Reynolds equation is employed as the governing equation and the gradient with respected to oil film thickness is obtained using adjoint variable method. The gradient is smoothed by traction method and added to original oil film thickness by multiplying step length α. Performance function is defined by frictional force and friction coefficient is decreased by keeping a constant load. A new calculation is added to adjust the basic oil film thickness in order to keep a constant load.
