Work hardening of perlitic steel is governed by the stress partitioning between ferrite(α) and cementite (θ) during deformation. However by heavily drawn processing, cementite dissolves to disappear. Hence, the strength of heavily drawn processed pearlitic steel originates in a matrix. In this paper, a pearlitic steel wire with ultra-high strength was studied by in situ time-of-flight diffraction during tensile deformation. Lattice plane strains for various (hkl) planes were measured in the tensile and the perpendicular directions simultaneously.
