Abstract
Recently, the materials need to save weight as a solution of global environment problems. Aluminum base alloys that lighten components, members and product have already been put to practical use for same applications. A possible and basic approach for spreading the use of aluminum base alloys is to improve the strength of aluminum with maintaining its high electrical conductivity, In the study, iron has been chosen as an additive element and the addition effect on strength and electrical has been investigated since iron is reported to have a marked strengthening effect at a given addition amount. Aluminum with 99.99mass% purity and Al-Fe alloys with iron up to 0.9mass% were induction-melted and continuously cast into a rod with 8mm diameter. Tensile test and electrical resistivity measurement were carried out on the rod. It was found that ultimate tensile strength increased while ductility and electrical conductivity decreased as the addition iron amount was increased.
