Abstract
In this paper, lap fillet welding of thin sheet magnesium alloy AZ31B has been carried out using an Nd:YAG laser beam, where influence of laser beam center location and scan speed on joint appearances of a thin sheet of 0.3 mm has been investigated. As a result, the beam location greatly affects bond width and penetration depth, and a wider bond width is achieved when it is located just on the edge of the upper specimen with a wide range of scan speeds from 250 until 450 mm/min. An increase in bond width improves tensile shear load on the weld joint.
