Abstract
A complex geometry of components and/or flaws requires a very high cost in preparing analysis models for FEM (Finite Element Method) calculations. XFEM (extended Finite Element Method) is one of solutions of this difficulty. Cracks are modeled independently from element subdivisions by XFEM formulation. XFEM uses enrichment functions for discontinuity of displacement and stress singularity around the crack tip. Because the enrichment functions are usually based on elastic analytical solutions around the crack, elastic crack problems are analyzed precisely. Many efforts have been made to calculate elasto-plastic problems by using XFEM. But an allowable answer may not be obtained yet. Here the discussion is focused to the effect of choice of enrichment functions on accuracy of elasto-plastic solutions of two dimensional crack problems.
