The China-Indonesia Joint Laboratory (hereinafter, Joint Lab) on High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) focuses on the capacity building in the field of modular HTGR technology and joint researches of reactor designs, safety issues, localization potentials and simulator technologies. Based on the successful experience in developing the engineering simulator and full scope simulator of HTR-PM in China, the compact HTGR simulator developed in the Joint Lab is mainly used for nuclear education and improving public acceptance in Indonesia. Referring to the design of 150MWth HTGR “PeLUIt” and the steam turbine electricity generation system, the compact simulator is jointly developed by adding new models and human-machine interfaces. Equipped with several touch-screen displays and small-size desktops or laptops, the compact HTGR simulator can be easily carried to classrooms, meeting rooms, and exhibitions to explain what HTGR is and how HTGR operates. Several initial conditions are prepared to demonstrate the inherent safety features of modular HTGR in typical transients, such as the station blackout or the control rod withdrawal. Along with detailed joint design of the Indonesian HTGR in the Joint Lab, more models can be facilitated in the simulator and more functions can be developed in the near future.
