Abstract

Aiming at the current low efficiency in the conversion process of municipal solid waste, this study took a waste-to-energy power plant in Shanghai as a benchmark to construct a detailed mathematical model that can reflect the actual waste energy conversion cycle, and analyzed the economic properties under rated and variable operating conditions (variation of waste composition and waste flow rate). The results under rated conditions show that the waste conversion power generation system has a daily processing capacity of 6000 tons, a rated power of 50MW with a power generation efficiency of 28.49%, and the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) is 258.03 yuan/MWh with a project investment recovery period of 6 years. The results under variable operating conditions showed that the variable operating conditions have a great influence on economic properties by affecting the thermal performance of the waste-to-energy power plant, a 10% increase in waste flow rate will cause a 3% decrease in the LCOE.
