Abstract

Utilization of hydrogen as fuel for energy conversion engines is a promising way towards a future renewable heat and power generation. Worldwide, the number of projects comprising the complete hydrogen cycle, including the production of hydrogen gas, the refinement and liquefaction, transportation and storage, and the utilization is increasing significantly. This paper presents the development and demonstration of a novel prototype dry low NOx boiler burner for pure hydrogen fuel. This boiler has jointly been developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) and Kawasaki Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd. (KTE). The burner consists of multiple premixing fuel nozzles. A demonstration test confirmed NOx emissions below 60 ppm (O2 = 5%) at all relevant operating conditions.
