Abstract
This paper deals with experimental study of elastic force, damping force and adhesive force in dynamic collision of a spherical slider with a magnetic disk. We used an Al_2O_3TiC and glass spherical slider with a radius of 1mm and magnetic disks whose substrate is Aluminum (Al) and glass. The Al disk samples have four different lubricant film thicknesses of 0, 1, 2, and 3 nm. We found that the static pull-off force of glass slider is close to 4πRγ where R is radius of the spherical slider and y is surface energy of the lubricant. The dynamic adhesion force is larger than the static pull-off force but not far from 4πRγ except for the case of 3 nm lubricant thickness. The adhesion force at 3 nm lubricant thickness significantly increases probably because of squeeze damping force. Contact stiffness of rough Al_2O_3TiC slider is much smaller than Hertzian contact force, whereas that of smooth glass slider is higher than the Herzian contact force.
