Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new head positioning mechanism of a magnetic disk storage. On the basis of the concept of the in-phase positioning mechanism, a new positioning mechanism is designed for 2.5 inch single disk and single side recording drive. Natural frequency of it's primaly resonance mode is about 8.5kHz. This positioning mechanism is actuated by a voice coil motor attached on the middle of the arm, which is more reliable device than other positioners with micro-actuator. To show the performance of this positioning mechanism, we design a Η_∞ controller for this positioner. Under assumption of continuous time control, the band-width of this positioning system is over 3kHz which can achieve 200kTPI track density.
