Abstract

In smart buildings and homes, the most frequently used floor surfaces can extract significant sensory information by incorporating sensors without the use of video imaging. A smart mat containing built-in generators generates power from the energy of human footsteps, enabling sensing without wiring. In a previous study, we developed a smart mat with built-in triboelectric power generators for counting walking steps and performing wireless transmission. In this study, we improved that system to be installed the entry/exit counting function when any person entered and leaved a room. Mats were set on outside and inside the door. Entry and exit were determined based on the signal patterns of passersby stepping on mats inside and outside. Finally, it was conformed that the system worked on the case of 5 different patterns through door.
