Planetary roller screw mechanism (PRSM) is a transmission device for converting rotary motion into linear motion, or vice versa. In order to investigate the load bearing characteristics of PRSM, two samples from different producers are tested. The effects of pitch deviations on load distribution over threads are analyzed. In the performance test of PRSM, it finds that there are entirely different performances for the two PRSM samples. It is inferred that the essential differences are the processing technology. Therefore, in the interest of the effects of processing technology on load bearing characteristics of PRSM, the two PRSM samples are detected. Screw, rollers and nut of each PRSM sample are the main objects to detect, and material composition, micro hardness and microstructure are measured. The results are expected to be guidance for the processing technology, and to enhance the load bearing characteristics of PRSM.
