The microstructural evolution during fabrication of ultrafine grained (UFG) Ti alloy through intensive plastic straining (IPS) was explored. Formation mechanism of UFG was discussed. It has been shown that during compression of a martensite microstructure at 890℃, both α and β phases were dynamic recrystallized and the lamellae was broken up by means of grain boundary sliding and phase penetration along the (sub) grain boundaries within the lamellae; at 650℃, α phases were dynamic recrystallized, and β phases were precipitated and grew in the matrix of α phase
