Abstract
The fatigue properties of the sintered 304L stainless steel specimens made by a metal injection molding were investigated. The specimen was influenced by the micro-structural factors, such as the oxide particles precipitated in the sintered specimens and the size of austenite grains. During fatigue test strain hardening was caused. The fatigue limit of gas atomized compacts was 310MPa stronger than water atomized compacts, because of high density. The water atomized compact was harder than gas atomized compact, so pores obstructed progress of dislocation. Typical fatigue fracture was observed on the fracture surface near the surface of specimen. The crack origin was some pore and oxide particles.
