Abstract
Double spiral grooved journal gas seals are investigated theoretically and experimentally in this paper. The compressible Reynolds equation applied the coordinate system of geometry of grooves on rotor and sleeve surfaces is solved by divergence formulation method, whose validity can be confimed experimentally. And, optimum designs on dimensionless groove depth and groove angle are suggested, which can maximize sealing pressure.
