It has been believed that blood vessel diseases like atherosclerotic lesions and aneurysm preferentially develop in the branching and the curve of arteries and are strongly related to the complex blood flow pattern due to the unique complex geometry of blood vessel and unsteady flow. In present study, we focused on an aortic arch which is especially complex flow channel among the arteries, and the blood flow in it is strongly affected by heart cycle. Numerical analysis of intermittent flow in the aortic arch model was performed. Localized higher and lower wall shear stress distribution was found at wall having large curvature. Large reverse flow is generated on inner wall by decreasing flow rate. Relative higher wall shear stress distribution occurred at inner wall than at outer wall.
