Effect of Air-fuel Mixture Characteristic in the Vicinity of Ignition Plug on Flame Propagation in an SI-Combustion

Abstract

Effect of the air-fuel mixture characteristics in the vicinity of ignition plug on flame propagation is investigated based on the flow measurement result and combustion analysis for a spark ignition combustion process. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) method is performed to measure the in-cylinder fluid motion of a rapid compression expansion machine (RCEM). The results show that the local velocity fluctuation around ignition plug significantly affects the initial combustion rate.
