This paper describes a cart-type seismic vibration isolator using restoring force of a pendulum and multi-stage damping. Multi-stage damping is realized using a magnetic damper. The magnetic damper uses the eddy-current loss. The damping coefficient can be tuned by changing the distance between the magnet and conductor plate. The multi-stage damping decrease the maximum relative displacement without increasing the acceleration of the isolator. In addition, this paper describes the vibration suppression using the proposed cart as a dynamic vibration absorber. The effectiveness of the proposed methods was verified through simulations.
