The growth and collapse of a bubble between two free surfaces are simulated by using the boundary element method for understanding the bubble dynamics in a plane free mercury jet. The influence of pressure gradient in the liquid on the deformation of the bubble and free surfaces are investigated. After the bubble takes the maximum volume, the pressure gradient arises between nearer free surface and the bubble interface leading to the liquid jet formation for the bubble interface and the rapid growth of the water column on the free surface.
