Abstract
This paper reports several important considerations in design phase of miniaturization of the machine tool that covers only small work piece. The target of miniature machine tool performance is same accuracy and productivity of conventional size, but target mechanical portion size is less than 20cm cube. Least necessary power is obtained by built in small high speed motor attached to the tool spindle. When the length of shaft or beam structure is reduced by reduction coefficient X, diameter or cross section size shall be reduced by coefficient X^<3/4> or bigger to minimize stiffness reductionn. This method improves also dynamic stiffness by drastic mass reduction. Peripheral equipment such as electrical control device size and wiring parts size reduction are expected.
