Abstract
It is important to control the spontaneous ignition and the succeeding combustion to achieve the expansion of the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine's operation region and the suppression of the knocking in SI engines. However, the most frequenty used tool that is the Rapid Compression Machine (RCM), can not simulate the ignition and the combustion at high engine speeds. We had improved the RCM and developed a Super Rapid Compression Machine (SRCM) that realizes the rapid compression at high engine speeds. The SRCM has problems that the bore is smaller than typical automotive engines and the heat loss is large. Therefore, the SRCM whose bore is similar in size to those engines is developed. The newly developed SRCM can minimize the heat loss. It succeeds in the optical observation of high speed HCCI and knocking.
