Abstract
A uniform spray burner was developed to perform a fundamental study on partially-prevaporized spray combustion. Condensation method was applied to a newly-developed burner. A laser sheet technique was used for flow observations and droplet velocity measurements in the leading edge of a flame. A tilted flat flame was stabilized at the nozzle exit using a butane torch flame. A phase Doppler anemometry was employed in order to measure droplet diameter and velocity distributions at the nozzle exit. Continuous laminar flow of partially-prevaporized spray was generated successfully. Droplet diameter and velocity 5 mm above the nozzle exit were constant in the flow area less than 2.5 mm in radius. Burning velocity of spray flames of 0.9 in the total equivalence ratio and 7〜9 μm in the mean droplet diameter decreases with the increase in strain rate, and increases with the increase in the liquid equivalence ratio.
