Abstract
This paper describes potentiality of design education by using force sensors device. The device is like a 3D-mouse (PHANTOM) which gives a feeling of object recognition. Generally, designing like an idea-sketch is the first process for manufacturing and it is very important to use the digital data for modeling. FreeForm modeling with the PHANTOM is introduced as a tool for design education. The SensAble Technologies PHANTOM product line of haptic devices makes it possible for users to touch and manipulate virtual objects. In this paper, potentiality of design education using the FreeForm product is discussed and it is indicated that the FreeForm system is effective for 3D clay digital-modeling.
