Abstract
Chain drives transmit power parallel, well-spaced shafts, usually with a major change in rotational speed and torque. In order to design chain drives, we have to consider two problems. They are the fatigue of chain and the mating noise between chain and sprocket. In this study, we focused on the noise of chain drives. As a preliminary experiment, we examined position and distance of measurement. Position of measurement of SPL was determined as mesh starting position. Distance of measurement of SPL was determined as 1cm from tip circle. After the preliminary experiment, we experimented in various operating conditions. From the experimental results, we obtain the follows; (1) The greatest cause of the noise of bush chain drives is an meshing impact. It appears on mesh frequency. (2) The SPL of bush chain drives increases with increasing rotational speed. It is not increased by the influence of the applied torque.
