Abstract
Numerical analysis is carried out for turbulent flow in two rectangular channels connected by a small gap for the Reynolds number range from 3,300 to 580,000. The effect of the gap on the channel flow is visualized by the isocontours of the mean axial flow velocity and of the turbulence intensities. A large scale pulsation that oscillates in the gap that connects two rectangular channels is observed. The calculated results are compared with the experiments to confirm the validity of the numerical simulation. The present turbulent model relatively predicts the experimental data well. In addition, calculated results clearly show the generation of the large scale pulsation in the gap and the effect of Re.
