Differential pressure measurement and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurement were carried out to investigate the heat transfer enhancement effect of a pipe flow by a vibrating control. The Reynolds number changes from turbulent region to laminar flow region at the entrance of the test section. The vibration parameters are the frequency of 100 Hz and the amplitude of 700 μm. The vibration was generated by means of three piezoelectric actuators. No change in the friction drag due to the control was confirmed at the friction Reynolds numbers of 60, 70 and 80. It is found through the PIV measurement downstream of the test section that flow from the center of the channel to the wall occurred in a cross section regardless of the vibration phase. In consequence, the flow field should be non-uniform in the flow direction, which is different from the previously reported results by direct by direct numerical simulation(1, 2).
