Abstract

Small-hole EDM uses thin-diameter tool electrode for machining micro deep holes. The machining fluid is injected from tool pipe electrode to remove machining debris during machining in Small-hole EDM. However, it becomes insufficient to remove debris in high aspect rate machining and that causes abnormal discharge such as short circuit, secondary discharge on side of tool electrode. These abnormal discharges degrade machining speed. Therefore, in this study, Groove electrode and flat shape electrode were made by applying additional machining to a general electrode. These electrodes are able to reduce abnormal discharges. Finally, it was confirmed that the reduction of the machining speed could be suppressed when the machining experiment was conducted by using groove electrode and flat shape electrode.
