Abstract
The effects of lubricant on the characteristics of the magnetic abrasive brush are explicated. The normal force is measured with several sorts of lubricant, and their differences in the characteristics are studied Comparative experiments are also conducted with three types of magnetic particles in order to confirm the effects of lubricant. Measurements of the normal force are carried out by force measuring equipment, which has 4 semi-circular springs with strain gages mounted on each spring surface. The measuring equipment is set on the table of the magnetic finishing machine converted from an ordinary milling machine. The results of this experiment show that there is a strong relation between lubrication and force transmission in the magnetic abrasive brush. The force generated by the magnetic abrasive brush without lubricant is stronger than that with soluble or emulsion type cutting fluid during pole rotation, although there is no dispersion in the normal force of the brush before the pole rotates.
