Abstract
To improve the tribological properties of stainless steel, a new surface processing method which is a combination of FPP (fine particle peening) and ELID (electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding is proposed. This process provides the surface texture which includes flat areas (plateau) on the rough texture. Small plateaus successfully reduced the friction coefficient and wear amount while large plateaus rather increased them. The area ratio of plateau strongly affects the tribological properties of stainless steel.
