Abstract
Feed drive mechanisms are essential components for machine tools, which drive the table system and spindle to fulfill the machining process. The performances of the feed drive mechanism influence the capability of machine tools. In the study, a conceptual design assistance system has been presented, where all of the components of machine tools including feed drive mechanisms are approximated by beam elements. Since the analysis time is short, design engineers can select a suitable structure quickly on the basis of analysis results. Therefore, the system can support engineers efficiently to determine the suitable machine tool structure in the early design stage with consideration of feed drive mechanism.
