Abstract
The Speed Difference Square Method (SDSM) is a new method to monitor the end milling process, and is based on the rotational speed of the milling spindle. The author focused on the balance of power and work rate around the milling spindle, and defined the SDSM index. In previous studies, high correlation between the SDSM index and the cutting force has become clear. Through the experimental cuttings and the measurements of the cutting surfaces, it was cleared that the SDSM index is effective for the end milling process. And the ability of cutting surface control by SDSM was shown.
