Abstract
This study focuses on the investigation of cutting characteristics of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) plate with Nd:YAG laser. Surface temperature during laser irradiation was measured with two-color pyrometer in order to investigate the cutting process. In particular, Q-switch pulse Nd:YAG laser was used to cut the CFRP plate. Moreover, assist gas was used to reduce the thermal damage. As a result, this study showed that the surface temperature to give thermal damage of carbon fiber was around 2000℃. The use of assist gas is effective to decrease the width of the Heat Affected Zone.
