Abstract
The present paper proposes a unique test piece for evaluating the machining performance of five-axis machining centers. A cone-frustum specified in the NAS 979 standard has been used as a test piece for more than 40 years. In the present paper, in place of the cone-frustum, a truncated square pyramid with a half apex angle of 15° is proposed as a test piece for checking the machining performance. This test method provides far more information than the cone-frustum test method.
