Abstract

Occurrence of chatter decreases productivity in machining. The purpose of this study is to suppress chatter vibrations on its early stage in high speed end-milling process by using adaptive control of spindle speed. For this purpose, pseudo auto-correlation function is applied to tool vibration data for detection of occurrence of chatter vibrations and control of spindle speed. It was concluded that the time required for detection of occurrence of chatter by using pseudo auto-correlation function and control of spindle speed was about half the time by using the Fast Fourier Transform method.
