The present study describes a relationship between friction resistances and lubricating condition of textured surfaces fabricated by lower flow rate micro shot peening. A ring on disc type testing apparatus was used for the experiment with various applied loads and sliding speeds. A conductance measurement at the interface was connected to the friction experiment to evaluate the lubricating condition, hydrodynamic or mixed. Results showed that the lubricating condition transited from hydrodynamic to mixed and that the lower friction resistance was obtained at dimpled-dimpled surface combination. The conductance was different depending on the combination of the surface profile, dimpled or flat. The relationship between the conductance and the friction coefficient was discussed.
