Abstract
Time dependent reversible structural change in dispersions is called thixotropy, which is observed in various flows in both engineering processes and nature. Consequently, analyses of structural change in fluids are necessary for the flow analysis of thixotropic fluids. In the present study, a constitutive model that consists of a Bingham model and a kinematic equation of fluidity was applied to the numerical simulation of flows of thixotropic fluids in an eccentric double cylinder. The numerical simulation predicted complicated time dependent structural changes such as the decrease in the fluidity followed by the recovery of structure. These results confirmed that the analysis of time dependent behavior is important for revealing the flow mechanism of thixotropic fluids.
