Abstract
The concept of biomimicry attracts global attention, since it is said that there is a hint to the sustainability in the bio-inspired technology. The living thing may has some optimalities, because it has adapted to the environment by the growth process at the individual level, and survived by the evolution process at the species level. The study that applying the findings obtained from the living thing to the optimization technology of the artifacts has been performed, while the study that clarifies the optimality of the living thing also has been done. In this paper, the study on optimum structural design related to the living things and the study on the evolutionary computing provided new bio-inspired optimization method are surveyed, and the current issues are described.
