Abstract
An objective in this study is to realize clean combustion in a natural gas/diesel dual fuel engine with ensuring high thermal efficiency comparable to a conventional diesel engine. However, the main drawback of the dual fuel engine is significant amount of unburned hydrocarbon when the engine runs at low load. In this study, the effect of hot EGR on unburned hydrocarbon emission was examined by means of chemical kinetics and computational fluid dynamics. Numerical analysis shows possibilities that applying EGR can reduce the emission of NO_x at high-load, and that increasing intake temperature can reduce the emission of unburned hydrocarbon at low-load.
