This paper describes the high residual stress induced in the functional and brittle ceramic fiber such as optical fiber and piezoelectric ceramic fiber embedded in an aluminum matrix by the IF/B method. In this study, the residual stress was measured by Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor in the embedded optical fiber or the electron Moire method. According to the results, it was found that extremely high compressive residual stresses are induced in the fibers, which are useful for improving the small breaking strains of the highly functional fibers.
