The basic three-dimensional computations including heat and mass transport and electrochemical reactions were performed using COMSOL Multiphysics in order to analyze the complicated phenomena occurring in the passive PEFC. Mass transport was calculated with Maxwell-Stephen's equation. Gas was assumed to flow in continuum based on Dulce's law in the gas diffusion layer. It was also assumed the gas flow was laminar in the anode channel and in the cathode half open chamber and that there was no slip on the wall surfaces. A lot of valuable information regarding I-V characteristics and physical properties, such as current density and local temperature, were obtained as a result.
