A computer assisted instruction (CAI) system for simulating mechanism construction in the 3-dimensional space has been developed. In this study, the function of making the cam profiles based on the displacement diagram was implemented to the system. The displacement diagram can be drawn easily with the mouse device by combining the arbitrarily-inclined lines and sine curves, and that one can preview the cam profile which is determined by the provided diagram. The system also has the function to notify the maximum pressure angle and its positions to the user during the operation of making the cam. It was demonstrated that the useful environment of the learning about the cam mechanism based on the displacement diagram can be presented to beginners.
