Abstract
In the present paper, operating performance of fiber reinforced phenol gears was evaluated. Generally, phenol has a high heat resistance, and using fiber reinforce like carbon or glass fiber, their toughness could be improved. However, the previous study showed that organic fiber contained in carbon fiber reinforced phenol (OCFRP) reduced operating performance of OCFRP gears in high temperature. Therefore, carbon fiber reinforced phenol without organic fiber (CFRP) and carbon and glass fiber reinforced phenol without organic fiber (CGFRP) were developed, and operating performance of CFRP and CGFRP gears were evaluated. As a result, it was found that operating performance of CFRP gears was better than that of CGFRP and OCFRP gears in room temperature. And temperatures near a meshing point of CFRP gears were lower than those of CGFRP gears. So, it is cleared that CFRP gears have better friction performance compared to CGFRP gears.
