Abstract
The present study describes erosive wear of hardened carbon steel during micro shot peening treatment. Alumina and glass beads having 50 μm in diameter were used as the impact media. The experiment was carried out with a developed shot peening apparatus consisted from a direct gas ejection system including a double walled nozzle and a particle storage tank. Results showed that erosive wear loss of the surface impacted with the alumina beads was significant larger than that with the glass beads and that the higher hardness was found on surface impacted with the glass beads. The hardness increase of the glass beads impacted surface with the increase in the treatment time was also found. The erosive wear mechanism of the carbon steel during the micro shot peening treatment was discussed.
