Thin and flexible continuous medium such as papers or plastic films are called web. The web which is transported by many rollers is wound up in the roll. This winding method is called the roll-to-roll system. This production system which is performed a large number of processes makes it possible to low cost and mass production. However, when the web is wound up in the roll, surface asperity of the wound roll occurs by thickness variation of the web. We need an accurate measurement of internal stress in the roll for winding up many webs without occur surface asperity of the roll. However, the research on internal stress state in wound roll considering the thickness variation in width direction of the web has not yet been carried out. In this study, we measured radial stress of roll in width direction and we considered the effects of the web thickness variation on internal stress in the wound roll. As a result, internal stress in the roll and the roll surface shape show a similar tendency by tension distribution.
