3D forming of large metal plate in shipbuilding industry relies on artisan skill. Typically the forming operation is done by combination of press working and local heating by gas burner. To improve efficiency of the press working, we studied quantitative evaluation of deformation process of it by using 2D discrete Fourier transform (DFT). Form of the plate in the press working process was expressed as z = fix, y), and the Fourier transform of the 2D function was computed to quantify the form. Difference of load of the press and position of the press were evaluated by 2D power spectrum from the DFT.
