Shape Memory Gel (SMG) is one of the most interesting unique soft and wet materials. Its shape memory function is due to the crystalline feature of alkyl side chain integrated into main polymer chain. The side chain switches its state between amorphous phase and crystalline phase depending on temperature. The elastic modulus of the SMG in water is steeply changed by heating and cooling due to the composite preparation from hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers (Temperature-switch Shape Memory Gel, abbreviated to T-switch SMG). Thus the modulus is also changed by the kinds of solvent (Solvent-switch Shape Memory Gel, abbreviated to S-switch SMG). Here we have an idea that these properties are possibly applied to develop a novel gel-switch chemical semiconductor, named "Gel-con(ductor)". The Gel-con will be made from the combination of the different kinds of the S-switch gel membranes and will be used as rectifier, amplifier and calculator in chemical circuits, where the solvent molecules behave as electron and hole. In this study, we try to prepare the suitable gel membranes for the Gel-con and make the Gel-con.
